Thompson's® Water Seal®
Waterproofer
When to Use
When you want one product to waterproof all exterior surfaces. When
mildew/biological factors are not a problem. For wood — only when
natural graying is desired. For brick, concrete and other masonry surfaces
— only when the added features of Thompson's® Total Concrete Care
products are not desired.
Key Features
 | Unbeatable multi-surface waterproofing—exceeds federal/industry
standards for water repellency on wood, brick and concrete. |
 | Does not change surface color or leave a shine.
 | Allows wood to weather naturally to gray.
 | Where two coats are recommended, wait 24 hours between coats.
 | Clean up with mineral spirits or paint thinner.
 | Wait 30 days to apply to new pressure treated lumber.
 | Easy application with Thompson's™ Water Seal™ Deck & Fence
Sprayer.
How it
Works
 | Solvent carries water-repellent into surface; as solvent evaporates,
water-repellents remain below the surface.
 | Water-repellent ingredients establish a moisture barrier, yet allow
the surface to breathe.
 | Because it penetrates below the surface, Thompson's® Water Seal®
formula waterproofs long after the initial water beading is gone.
Surface
Preparation
Read label directions thoroughly before use.
 | Surface and substrate must be free of all mildew, dust, dirt, oil,
soot, grease and other contaminants.
 | Prior to application, clean all surfaces completely with Thompson's®
Deck Wash, according to the package directions and cautions.
 | If surface is damp or wet from weather or cleaning, always allow the
surface to dry thoroughly (approximately two days for wood, three or
more days for concrete or masonry) before application.
 | For best results, both surface and air temperature must be above 40
degrees Fahrenheit.
Application
Hints
 | Allow 30 days before applying on new pressure treated lumber.
 | Not recommended for use on painted or recently stained surfaces.
 | Overspray of product onto glass should be removed immediately with
paint thinner or mineral spirits.
 | Cover plants and shrubs. If using a sprayer, move all objects that
could come in contact with overspray.
 | Certain surfaces, including some stucco and stabilized adobe may
"bleed" in the presence of solvents, thereby resulting in
discoloration. A test patch should be made in an inconspicuous place
before treating the entire surface.
Reapplication
 | Length of time needed before reapplication will vary depending on
the surface and exposure conditions, but expected protection is one to
two years.
Coverage
Guidelines
 | Actual coverage will vary considerably due to porosity of surface
materials.
